checking in: dorset square hotel

The Dorset Square Hotel, is the newest (and oldest) addition to the Firmdale group. The boutique property re-opened in June 2012 after a refurbishment, but it was actually the first Firmdale hotel in 1985 which was sold before being purchased 10 years later. Some people say you don’t get second chances but Firmdale definitely did with this hotel…Set on the site of Thomas Lord’s old cricket ground, the cricket theme runs throughout the hotel with various shirts and bats on the walls. The cosy hotel has just 38 each with different decor, a comfy drawing room with honesty bar and restaurant named The Potting Shed.

We stayed in one of the Dorset Square Rooms of which look out onto the pretty garden square. The rooms feel just like home, there are colourful additions throughout, big beds, double sinks, minibars, ipod docking stations, robes and magazines. We took breakfast in the Potting Shed restaurant which features a cold table of goodies, way better than your bog standard continental otherwise there’s a hot menu with everything from a Full English and Eggs Benedict to Avocado bagels on offer. The staff are all uber friendly and it really does feel like home.
