MACBETH
20th AUGUST 2013

If there was any question how our beloved Hoxton pub the Macbeth is, it was well and truly answered last night. On the first of three nights of gigs to help ‘Save the Macbeth’ from surrounding construction and noise restrictions, Londoners turned out in droves and showed exactly what happens when live music venues in this city are threatened.

Organisers Cherry Cola called in the musical prowess of gypsy jazz fourpiece The Din, seventies folk-rockers Arthur Gunn and the psychedelic Splashh to kick off the week of gigs, reminding those of us in attendance exactly why the Macbeth is so important. While each band provided a distinctly different vibe, what they had in common was talent, promise and the ability to put on a great show. And that is what we’ve come to expect from gigs at the Macbeth.

Between bands, the tunes provided by Cherry Cola DJs ensured everyone from the daiquiri-drinking dames to the facial-hair-flaunting fellows were dancing (even if it meant taking up residence on the stairs to do so) School night be damned, it was all about Tunesday!

‘Save the Macbeth’ week continues with Is Tropical headlining tonights show and Gallows starring on Thursday. Judging by last nights attendance, tickets are going to be snapped up so get them while you still can. And sign the petition while you’re at it. Your disco needs you.
