had the chance to catch up Crystal Fighters who’s forthcoming second album ‘Cave Rave’ drops next Monday, 27th May. Their new track ‘You & I’ had us hypnotised with it’s catchy grooves just a few weeks ago. Here’s how it went…

You’re about to release your second album and embark on a 70-date world tour, this must be a really exciting time to be a part of Crystal Fighters?

Yes, the is by far the most exciting moment in our lives, and the first few shows have been epic. We’ve waiting to get back on tour.

You’re launching the new album Cave Rave with a show in a cave in the Basque countryside, is Basque culture is obviously still a strong influence on the Crystal Fighters sound?

Yes we are, and you should definitely come. Basque culture will always be a strong influence in our music, and this time we looked further into the collective understanding of existence that was documented in different caves and structures around the world over 30,000 years ago. We put ourselves in the mindset of these initial cave artists who were trying to pass along knowledge of dimensions beyond the physical realm…so we thought there would be no better place to play these songs.

Is it difficult to balance what the fans might want, and what you as a band want when going through that creative process?

To be honest, we have faith in our fans understanding of our evolution. I try and only exist in the moment, as thoughts are only and illusion, We hope for our fans to try and do the same, and if the vibrations of this album do not harmonise with some of our fans frequencies, it is not the end of the world…our first album exists eternally.

Crystal Fighters shows are known for being high energy and high intensity. Is that kind of excitement that something that comes naturally or that as a band, you need to gear yourself up for?

We play every show like it might be our last, and never take the position we are in for granted. I think this mentality, along with the direct energy transfer between us and the crowd, which increases exponentially as the show progresses, has a lot to do with it.

You guys, like us at London On The Inside, obviously have a soft spot for this city. Where are the places that you like to visit or the things you like to do when you’re back in London?

London is awesome! Really there’s nowhere else like it, and we do love it dearly. Recently been visiting a raw vegan restaurant in Queen’s Park called Nama, and it really is very delicious. Victoria park is pretty radical as well.

Crystal Fighters are set to embark on a huge world tour throughout 2013. They’ll play London’s KOKO tonight, 23rd May as part of their sold out EU tour. ‘Cave Rave’ is out on the 27th May via Zirkulo/PIAS/Atlantic. Pre order it here.
