men’s hairdressers can be hard to find, it’s either a cheap chop in the barbers or footing the bill in a swish ladies salon. Luckily, when we were in need of a summer time mop chop we discovered Karine Jackson who has a salon right in the heart of Covent Garden and is rather conveniently a former Men’s Hairdresser of the Year. With a long list of celebrity clients frequenting the salon, it was time to add our name to that list…We swaggered in the bright salon and immediately noticed the spiral staircase dividing the reception to the work area, how nice. Our first time visit was met with a warm welcome and a menu of complimentary drinks from beer to tea – because men like beer.

A short consultation, and note taking from our scissors expert was followed by the action plan of the afternoon’s tricks, ‘still growing it long, keep it mod like, you know…erm, indie’ – we always feel a little weird explaining and we didn’t have a picture of Serge from Kasabian in our sky rocket (or Ian Botham at his peak). Gown on we were sent off downstairs to receive a lovely shampoo and conditioning treatment, both specified to suit our hair type and style, the hardest part, staying awake…when the head massage creeps down the neck we’re gone, long gone!

Back up top and we’re flicking through this month’s GQ with a cuppa watching the world go by from the window. The snipping starts, the hair falls off and what seemed like no time we’re on to the blow drying, she doesn’t hang about. Styled with a matt like finishing mousse our mop top is revealed to the world. Our name won’t be added to that list but by Joe it feels like Staying Alive is playing as we walk out with our coat over the shoulder, sunglasses on and do that slow motion turn as we cross the road.

Karine’s salon also offers a range of great unisex beauty treatments including waxing, manicures/pedicures, massages and facials, yes it’s s a one stop shop for male and female pampering. Get involved.

Men’s cut and finish starts from £27.50, women’s £37.50
