Aldwych is a five-star hotel conveniently located just off the Strand and only a hop, skip and a jump from Covent Garden. From the outside the luxury hotel doesn’t look all that but the minute you step foot into the lobby you know you have arrived somewhere pretty damn special.

The interiors are a grand affair, the Lobby area is bright and spacious with sculptures, plants, flowers, slick furniture and a Bar which serves up a great selection of cocktails with complimentary warm spiced nuts – be warned these are addictive! You can also dine in the Lobby Bar but we’d recommend trying one of the hotel’s two restaurants, either Axis or Indigo. We dined at Indigo the restaurant which over looks the bustling Lobby Bar and can vouch for the Fish Soup and Halibut, both of which were well thought out dishes, presented perfectly and full of flavour.

The hotel is also home to a cinema screening room which has regular Martini movie nights (NB. guaranteed to impress a date) a 18 metre pool which has a projector screen at the end and plays  underwater music, small gym and spa. Once you’ve made the most of the facilities we suggest you head back to your room and check-out the in-room amenities.

We stayed in a Deluxe Double with a bed big enough to get lost in, a couple of comfy armchairs, desk, huge TV with Internet access, a bathroom with free standing shower and bath, but best of all a little TV next to the sink which can be viewed in the bath, shower and on the toilet…well one of us had to watch the snooker. There are robes in the wardrobes, a box outside the door to leave your shoes in and voila in the morning they are shined like new and a weather report printed out so that you can decided what clothes to wear the next day.

Yes the rooms have everything you might need including a current issue of Time Out magazine, but hold on one minute….where’s the Nespresso machine? The only thing the rooms were missing was tea and coffee making facilities and at £4.50 a pop on room service we did think this was a little unfair. Other than that we couldn’t complain. WiFi and Internet access is free, there’s an Ice bucket pre-filled and lemons in the hall should you fancy a G&T.

One Aldwych is one of London’s finest luxury hotels, it benefits from an excellent location and has all of the facilities you might need in a hotel including those you didn’t even know you needed!

Rooms start from £235 per night. One  Aldwych, Aldwych Street, WC2B
