REVIEW: CAFÉ LUC

Café Luc is a modern European brasserie run by father and daughter team Julie and Luc Van Oostende, also responsible for Cafe Theatre in Ghent. Located on Marylebone High Street the restaurant offers a good selection of dishes and a reasonably priced lunchtime set menu (£15 for three courses). We visited during a Friday lunchtime and the place was bustling with a mixture of people, old and young alike.

mains we chose the Cheese Burger and Moules Marinieres. We skipped the starters as we had some serious shopping to do after lunch but we did graze on a basket of warm, fresh bread. The Cheese burger was a great choice, quite a size but you could still taste the quality of the meat through all of the other ingredients.

The Mussels cooked in white wine, shallots and parsley were fresh and plump, the only grumble being that the sauce was a little too salty. The chips were very good, crispy and soft, some of the best French fries we’ve had lately. Needless to say we ate them all.

For dessert we went for homemade vanilla ice cream with a side portion of hot chocolate sauce. A nice end to a pleasant meal. Would we go back? We certainly would, the Steamed Sea Bass sounds pretty good. Given the surrounds, atmosphere and food we didn’t think £12 for a main was to bad either.
